Deck Staining & Restoration on the Northern Beaches & North Shore

A timber deck should be the best spot at home on a summer evening. But Sydney sun, salt air and wet winters turn even good hardwood grey, rough and splintered within a few years. MAXLINE Property Solutions brings tired decks back to life across the Northern Beaches and the North Shore with proper preparation, careful sanding and quality oils and stains that protect the timber, not just colour it.

You deal directly with the owner, from the free quote to the final coat.

Our deck services

Deck cleaning
A deep clean removes dirt, mould, grey weathered fibres and the dark tannin stains that bleed out of hardwoods like Merbau. Clean timber is what lets oil soak in properly.

Deck sanding
Machine sanding takes the surface back to fresh timber, smooths rough and splintered boards and removes old, flaking coatings. Edges and corners are finished by hand.

Board repairs and screw-downs
We tighten or replace loose and popped screws, and replace boards that are split or soft, before any coating goes on.

Deck oiling
Penetrating decking oils soak into the timber to feed and protect it from the inside, with a natural satin finish that's easy to recoat later.

Deck staining
When you want to change or deepen the colour, or even out older boards with newer ones, a tinted stain gives a consistent finish with added UV protection.

Timber steps, fences and screens
The same care for timber steps, balustrades, privacy screens and fences, so the whole outdoor area matches.

Why decks wear out fast in north Sydney

  • UV. Strong Sydney sun breaks down the timber surface and any coating on it, which is what turns decks silver-grey.
  • Salt air. On the Northern Beaches, salt spray dries timber out and speeds up corrosion of fixings.
  • Shade and moisture. Under big North Shore trees, decks stay damp longer, so mould and slippery surfaces build up.
  • Tannin bleed. Hardwoods such as Merbau release dark tannins that stain paving and walls if the deck isn't cleaned and sealed properly.

Most decks need re-oiling every 12 months or so, and more often in full sun or near the water.

Deck restoration on the Northern Beaches

From Manly and Dee Why to Mona Vale, Newport and Avalon, coastal decks take the brunt of sun, wind and salt. We use oils suited to exposed sites and pay close attention to fixings that rust near the water.

Deck restoration in Manly

Manly decks and balconies are often small, high-use and close to the beach. A clean, sand and re-oil turns a grey, splintery deck back into somewhere you'll want to sit.

Deck staining on the North Shore

Across Chatswood, Lane Cove, Willoughby, Killara, Turramurra, Wahroonga and Hornsby, we restore everything from small courtyard decks to large entertaining areas on sloping blocks.

Deck staining in Mosman

Mosman homes often have generous hardwood decks with harbour views. We restore them with stains and oils that bring back the timber's natural colour and suit the style of the house.

How a deck restoration works with us

  1. Call or send an enquiry. Tell us your suburb and roughly how big the deck is.
  2. Free site visit. The owner checks the timber, the old coating and any boards that need replacing.
  3. Clear written quote. Cleaning, repairs, sanding and coating, itemised.
  4. The work. Clean, repair, sand and coat, with drying time built in between steps.
  5. Handover. We tell you when the deck is ready to use and how to keep it looking good.

Why homeowners choose MAXLINE

  • Direct owner oversight. The person who quotes your deck is the person who supervises the work.
  • Preparation first. A coating is only as good as the clean and sand underneath it.

Deck staining questions

How much does deck restoration cost?

It depends on the size of the deck, the timber's condition, how many boards need repairs and whether an old coating has to come off. We inspect first and give you an itemised written quote.

How often should a deck be oiled?

Most decks in Sydney need re-oiling about once a year. Decks in full sun or close to the beach may need it more often.

What's the difference between deck oil and deck stain?

Deck oil soaks into the timber to nourish and protect it, keeping a natural look. A stain adds colour, which helps even out mismatched boards and adds UV protection.

How long until I can use my deck again?

Usually you can walk on it the day after the final coat. Leave furniture off for a little longer, and allow extra drying time in cool or humid weather.

Can you get rid of black stains on my deck?

Often, yes. Dark marks are usually tannins or mould, and a proper deck clean removes most of them before sanding.

Do you restore decks that have gone completely grey?

Yes. Grey timber is weathered on the surface only. Cleaning and sanding take it back to fresh timber, ready to oil.
